                                        About us

                                        Since Nineteen hundred and something, students have channelled their voices and actions through OUSU Environment & Ethics. As an autonomous part of the Oxford University Students Union (OUSU), as a group we are the Oxford students' voice on matters of the environment and ethics. 

                                        What we do

                                        + Campaign on any issue in the realm of sustainability, climate change, Fair Trade, ethical investment, living wage, international development, biodiversity, recycling, ethical purchasing and conservation.
                                        + Weekly meetings at Thursday 5:30pm for anyone interested in the above issues as well as Common Room officers in charge of environment and/or ethics.
                                        + Support and train individual officers in their work in colleges.
                                        + Develop information sources such as handbooks, databases and information sheets. 
                                        + HAVE FUN! We organise various ethical socials, such as barbeques and movie nights   
                                        + Network with other environmental groups across the country through the Nation Union of Students (NUS), People and Planet, The Oxford Climate Forum and 350.org.

                                        Previous successes

                                          * Successfully campaigned for the University and every College to use a 100% renewably produced electricity (and they are!...)
                                          * Lobbied and won over the University to hire a full-time Head of Sustainability
                                          * Helped persuade Marks & Spencer to introduce a charge on plastic bags 
                                          * Working with the University Sustainability Team to ensure all new buildings meet the the sustainability standard of "BREEAM Excellent"
                                          * Working with colleges to force the council to start collecting plastic and cardboard from college sites, and to collect food waste from houses
                                          * Supported students to have at least 3 colleges gain Fair Trade status
